Oakcliff fielded two teams for the first time ever in the SeaPerch Regional competition Saturday. Scroll below for pictures from our practice sessions. Next school year will be even better! This year, the two Oakcliff teams practiced together at the
Mercer University Pool at the Sheffield GYM
, and the
Cowart Family YMCA Pool
. A huge thank you to Dr. McAnespie for securing the Mercer Pool! Our teacher-sponsors would also like to thank the fabulous Aquatics staff at both the Coward Family YMCA and the Mercer University Pool. Both facilities were fantastic.
Teacher-Sponsors this year are Ms. Miller, Dr. McAnespie, and Mr. Amorose. We are considering running a more robust SeaPerch program at Oakcliff during the 2017-2018 school years.
If parents or guardians are interested in working with SeaPerch in the 2017-2018 school year, please contact Ms. Miller. Because of the nature of the ROV robot builds, students must be in either 4th or 5th grade for the 2017-2018 school year. Also, a parent, guardian, or responsible adult would need to be present on build days for one-on-one supervision for several of the build tasks. More information will be made available soon.
What is SeaPerch?
SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) in an in-school or out-of-school setting...The SeaPerch Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) while building an underwater ROV as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum. Throughout the project, students will learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications.
Sponsors for SeaPerch National include the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, the United States Navy's Office of Naval Research Science & Technology, and 5:00 Films & Media.
