SciREN Scientists visit Discovery

SciREN scientists visited Ms. Lembach's Discovery classes Tuesday. Each scientist spoke about her career path in school and as a professional scientist. This visit comes near the end of a unit on marine environments and life.

SciREN
is a non-profit science and engineering group of graduate-student led scientists. "The Scientific Research and Education Network (SciREN) aims to connect local STEM researchers and educators to foster the dissemination of current research and ultimately enhance the science literacy of today’s youth."

Oakcliff's Ms. Miller and the STEM Coordinator at Peachtree Charter Middle School, Mr. Tim Ryan, visited the last SciREN event in Athens, GA, in February. Both invited SciREN scientists into our schools.  On their return, teachers in both schools were encouraged to connect with the SciRen scientists for the benefit of their students. Both schools hope to continue to develop this relationship next school year.
