Position at Oakcliff Elementary School

  • First Grade

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember!  I believe that teaching is the best job in the world.  This will be my 5th year at Oakcliff Traditional Theme School, and my 9th year teaching for the DeKalb County School District.  My classroom is always alive with both student work and class pets!

Although I have been living in metro-Atlanta for over a decade, my true home is in California.  My parents and their little dog Sherman, live in Redlands, California.  I attended Redlands High School and studied History, Government, and Spanish at the University of Redlands.  I moved to Clarkston, Georgia in 2005 to teach as an after school director and later a caseworker for refugee youth arriving from war-torn countries.  I was not in a traditional classroom, but I was teaching and the work filled my heart with love.  I eventually started a Master of Arts degree in Teaching at Mercer University and obtained my teaching credential.  The mission and purpose at Mercer University includes creating lifelong learners who care about making the world a better place.  I have continued my studies to a PhD degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and I know that will never stop learning!  Each day I wake up with the desire to make today better than yesterday, and I want to make our world a better place starting in the classroom.

I am looking forward to a year of EXCELLENCE at Oakcliff Traditional Theme School!

Free Time and Fun Stuff About Dr. McAnespie

In my free time I enjoy gardening, following current events, spending time outdoors and traveling with my parents.  I have a brilliant black Labrador/Retriever dog with white paws named John Hamilton McAnespie.  He is a little shy when meeting new people, but will quickly learn your name and shake your hand.  I also have a little black cat with white feet named Terrance Paddington McAnespie.  He is a very friendly cat who likes to go on walks with John and sit on command (for a treat).  I named John Dog after my dad John and Terry Cat after my uncle Terry.
