Position at Oakcliff Elementary School

  • ESOL Teacher, Grades 4 and 5

Hi! My name is Devan Watson, and this is my second year as an ESOL Teacher at Oakcliff. I previously taught fourth grade at Oakcliff, and I love this school because the students and families we serve are absolutely amazing! I honestly cannot imagine teaching anywhere else.

I am originally from San Diego, California, but I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to attend Spelman College where I received my B.A. in Sociology and Anthropology. I returned to school to get my Master’s in Education and ESOL Endorsement from Georgia State University. Teaching is my passion. I am in my fourth year of teaching, and I love it- because it gives me the opportunity to impact student’s lives. However, I remain deeply impacted by my students as well.

Educational Philosophy

I believe that teachers have just as much to learn from students as students have to learn from teachers. I strive to learn as much as possible from my students on a daily basis, and they continue to teach me so much! In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, reading, and playing with my two children.

" Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire."

William Butler Yeats
